Okinawa arrivo!!!

I have some big news!!!

On the 7th June I will go to Okinawa for about 2 months, that’s my first art residency and I am so happy that will be in the wonderful island in the south-south-south of Japan, as a Sicilian I kind of feel connected to Okinawa…SOUTH ISLANDS POWER!!!

I am honored to take part to a great theater project with my illustrations, and collaborate with great people there to create the scenography. I am so excited and looking forward to being there.

The show will be in the end of July in the Garaman Hall of Ginoza. I will post more details about it very soon.

And now let’s come back to work!

Illustrated Diary: drawing without thinking

It happens always.

I take a brush and I draw whatever in the first sheet of paper I find close to me and …. TADAAN! Waoh, it’s really a nice one!

Then I try to draw it again and better, and the result? It is always worst.

That’s why the second time I want to create the perfect drawing, I try an excessive control on my hand, so that I’m scared to wrong and fail. And the final effect is artificial, not natural, bad.

What I need is to make free my drawing of the fear of not being able to make the perfect piece, I have to learn to make beautiful mistakes.

So I start an illustrated diary, full of daily sketches, doodles and scratches to feel free to draw, experiment and find a new way to put in the paper all the mess I have in my mind, but with no care.

Drawing without too much thought. That’s it.

Oh Barcelona!

So also this little break from the daily life is going to the end and tomorrow evening I’ll go back to Berlin. It was very nice being in Barcellona with my old sicilian friends, enjoying the heat of a mediterranean land.

Tomorrow before leaving I will be with my friends in La Rambla, celebrating Sant Jordi in an improvised stand with books, roses and my bookmarks. My friends are all amazing writers and their book are crazy good, written both in italian and spanish. So if you are in Barcellona come to visit us tomorrow!

And now I leave you with a sketch that I did in the Park Guell listening to a band called Tablao Sur, they played beautiful latin music danced so nicely! It was very inspiring being in that wonderful park with that soundtrack.
